No doubt, I have chosen the right career way!
It is impossible to imagine life of a production company without blue collar jobs. Nowadays blue collar jobs no longer mean monotonous labor, but a constant movement and new challenges.
Yana Pashnina, Refiner Operator of PM14, learned it from her own experience, when she started working at Syktyvkarskiy LPK.
Yana, you had chosen an employer long before you took your course of education, is that right?
— That is correct. I have known about the mill for a long time. Working at the mill is both demanding and prestigious, that made me choose a specialization called Paper and Board Machine Operator when I entered Syktyvkar Pulp and Paper Vocational School. Well, naturally, I had worries, that the mill would not hire me without experience. But I did an internship at Paper Machine 14 as a Refiner Operator of the 4th category on my third course of education, and got the best marks. My career started in 2017 as I joined the company as a Packaging Machine Operator. But the technological process itself has always been my passion, so I wanted to work in my field of specialization. Two years later I got a chance to do so.
You probably had a mentor at your early career, is that so?
— Nadezhda Vasilyevna Aspidova was my first mentor. She is such a nice and sympathetic person! She helped me to polish my professional skills and to solidify my knowledge with practice. In 2021, I was offered to raise qualification and take an exam to get the 5th category. My mentor at that time was Elena Ivanovna Chaika, also a very experienced employee of our workshop.
What exactly do you do as a refiner operator?
— Our paper machine produces the famous office paper Snegurochka. To make it simple, my job is to monitor the process line, control the operation of the equipment, and the paper quality. If we are going into details, then the job is to prepare the fiber material prior to web formation on the paper machine. We control the quality of the stock which comes from the Fiberline and monitor the refining degrees, furnish making, chemicals dozing. Every two hours we make rounds at the workshop to check if the equipment runs well. The production process is automated, but it still cannot work without people. I enjoy working at Stock Preparation, and I would not change it for another department.
What attracts you most in your job?
— Imagine, you get the hang of the operations, everything goes smoothly, and you see the results — that is exactly what makes me go eagerly to the shift and be proud of myself and the team. My job became a source of inspiration and energy for me. No doubt, I have chosen the right career way! And of course I love my team, they are my second family, all the operators at our machine are friendly, very responsible and competent, we always stand together. I truly appreciate it!
What other things inspire you, apart from your job?
— There is a saying about the people of the Komi Republic: «Being from Syktyvkar means being a skier». So I am a typical Syktyvkar girl in that sense. As soon as the snow seats firmly on the ground, I get to a
